539 people on Nethravathi river banks in Bantwal taluk shifted to safer places

Mangaluru taluk received the least at 63mm of rainfall.Last year the district had received 17mm of rainfall. Last year, the district had received 309mm of rainfall till August 17.As on Friday, the water level in Nethravathi River at Bantwal was 9.5 meters well above the danger level of 8.5 meters. MANGALURU: As many as 539 people from 101 houses living or close to the Nethravathi river bank have been shifted to safer places by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration.The locals were shifted to safer places after an increase in the water flow in the river followin torrential rains in the upper reaches of the district, especially the Western Ghats . There are only 152 who have taken shelter in these centres and the rest have relocated themselves in their kins' houses. Belthangady, Puttur and Sullia Taluks received highest rainfall 119mm, 117mm and 100mm respectively..
