Kulals want parties to consider demands in poll manifesto

Mangaluru: As the country is gearing up for Lok Sabha elections, the Kulal (potters) community has put forth nine demands before political parties, seeking their inclusion in the election manifesto.Karnataka Kulal Kumbara Yuva Vedike, Karnataka Kumbarara Mahasangha, Kulal Kumbara Sanghatengala Okkoota and Karnataka Rajya Kumbara Mahila Sangha, have demanded for an assurance to create a National Potters’ Development Corporation. The community wants this corporation to be the official authority for sale of earthenware sold across the country.In addition, the members have also demanded that the Potters Development Corporation existing in the state be carved out of the Devaraj Urs Development Corporation and made a separate entity. The members want the authority, thus given individual status, be vested with powers to celebrate Sarvajna Jayanti across the state.The associations also want the government to recognise special achievers from the community in various segments, including academics, and bestow on them the Sarvajna Sri Award.Establishment of Kumbara Sarvajna Bhavan in every district headquarters, inclusion of the community central government in the scheduled category list, interest-free loan to students from the community, wish to pursue higher studies in or outside the country, loan up to Rs 5 lakh with a minimum of 90% rebate to women intending to start any cottage industry and adequate political representation to members of the community in various government institutions such as Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, are among the other demands..
