A special task force (STF) to curb illegal cow transportation, slaughter and cattle theft

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) urged the police in Dakshina Kannada district to set up a special task force (STF) to curb illegal cow transportation, slaughter and cattle theft.

Most of these illegal activities centre on the Kudroli abattoir of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and this is going on in a rampant manner, noted Sharan Kumar aka Sharan Pumpwell, divisional secretary of VHP here.

Regretting that neither DK district administration nor police has acted on this development despite sensitivity of the issue, he said illegal cattle transportation cases have been reported from both Mangaluru City and Dakshina Kannada district police units.

Cattle traffickers are using high end vehicles to transport cattle in the most barbaric of manners.

Only a STF can help put an end to this organised cattle trafficking syndicate, he said.

Calves being found with cows that are being illegally smuggled, Kumar said it is also imperative for police to check information of beef from these calves being mixed and sold with mutton.

The VHP has drawn the attention of the health officer of MCC to this development, he said.

MCC commissioner and authorities concerned must take this complaint seriously and initiate action against all those responsible for this illegal act, Kumar said.
