Meerut's sport industry will be branded under ‘one district, one product’ scheme

The sports goods and equipment are not only locally sold in the Surajkund Road market but also exported.The industry experts, however, are taking the announcement with a pinch of salt. It is a source of livelihood for hundreds of families who have been traditionally involved in the manufacture and sale of sports goods, including cricket bats, balls, gloves, badminton rackets and other sporting equipment.The industry caters to the demands of sportsmen and enthusiasts from all over. We are expecting an investment to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh crore which will not only boost infrastructure in the state but also throw open lakhs of jobs opportunities for the youth who have been migrating to other states in search of employment,” Yogi said. Meerut: In what is seen as a shot in the arm to Meerut’s iconic sports goods market, dubbed as one of the biggest in the country, chief minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the sports goods industry has been chosen to be branded under the aegis of the ‘one district, one product’ scheme which in turn is inspired from PM Modi’s ‘Start up India’ and ‘Stand up India’ schemes which promote business and entrepreneurship.“One product from each district will be chosen under this scheme, which will be promoted on the national level and we have decided that the sports industry will be chosen from Meerut,” said CM Yogi.Meerut’s sports goods industry is one of the largest in the country..
