This Muzaffarnagar locality monitors every move with 40 CCTV cameras

Muzaffarnagar: A dedicated control room monitors every move of passersby and residents in Purkaji locality of the district. Situated on the Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand border, this nondescript locality has around 40 CCTV cameras installed at its entry and exits points, outside temples, houses as well as shops. An initiative of the nagar panchayat chairperson, Zaheer Farooqi, the cameras have been mounted to check crime in the locality. The LEDs connected to the cameras are watched upon by staff inside the nagar panchayat office.“Several incidents of theft were reported in the locality soon after I was elected chairperson of the panchayat. We decided to install the CCTV cameras in a bid to check incidents of crime in the locality,” said Farooqi.Superintendent of police (SP), Omveer Singh, said, “The CCTV cameras have been helping police check and probe incidents of crime.”Some days ago, a minor was hit by a speeding car but local residents had gheraoed the wrong vehicle..
