Muzaffarnagar: A dedicated control room monitors every move of passersby and residents in Purkaji locality of the district. Situated on the Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand border, this nondescript locality has around 40 CCTV cameras installed at its entry and exits points, outside temples, houses as well as shops. An initiative of the nagar panchayat chairperson, Zaheer Farooqi, the cameras have been mounted to check crime in the locality. The LEDs connected to the cameras are watched upon by staff inside the nagar panchayat office.“Several incidents of theft were reported in the locality soon after I was elected chairperson of the panchayat.
