2 assailants, who shot at homeguard, held

Meerut: Two assailants — Taufiq and Rafeeq — who had allegedly opened fire at a police homeguard on October 20, were apprehended by the Bulandshahr police following an encounter near Dhameda Nara village in Kotwali Dehat area on Sunday late night.The duo sustained bullet injures in the encounter. Thakur was wanted in a sensational robbery at the residence of a PWD official earlier this year. According to the police, both Taufeeq and Rafiq are residents of Firozabad and are seasoned criminals. A bike looted from Noida, two country-made pistols and several cartridges were recovered from them.
