Agency to face music if power bill doesn’t reach consumer on time

Meerut: UP Power Corporation will now penalize agencies if consumer doesn’t get the electricity bill on time. Under Uday (Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana) there is a turnaround plan that aims at strengthening infrastructure of discoms, decreasing cost of producing electricity and financial regulation. Corporation MD and chief secretary (Power) Alok Singh gave the directions at a high-level meeting on Wednesday.The meeting was attended by officials of billing agencies.Besides, all discoms have been asked to cut line losses to a minimum of 15%. The meeting held in Gautam Budh Nagar also decided to install aerial bundled cables in those regions where line loss is high.“We are committed to not only to provide 24-hour electricity but also to minimise line losses to at least 15%. And, hence all stakeholders need to be highly constructive on those lines,” he said.All chief engineers of various discoms were also directed that all those consumers who had received new connections under Saubhagya scheme of Central Government must receive his first bill at his door step and block officers of the discoms must take feedback from consumers regarding that as well..
