Give ‘martyr’ status to slain paramilitary jawans: RLD

Meerut: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) vice president Jayant Chaudhary on Tuesday sought “martyr” status for jawans of para military forces who get killed in action. Our paramilitary forces are constantly engaging in anti-insurgency and anti-Naxal operations within the country. Nevertheless, there has been custom in the Army to accord martyr status to the soldiers.In July 2018, there was a shift in government’s stand on this issue when it informed the Delhi high court that the paramilitary personnel who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty may be accorded ‘martyr’ status and the proposal was under ‘active consideration.’ The demand came against the death of 44 personnel of CRPF in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.“Era of conventional battles is over.
