The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut regional rapid transit system (RRTS) is planning to shift a depot from Madhuban-Bapudham to Duhai in Ghaziabad as the NCR Transport Corporation and Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) failed to reach an agreement for the depot in Madhuban-Bapudham.

This shifting of the depot will now lead to some “minor changes” to the alignment of the RRTS route.

It is also interesting that Duhai was the original location chosen by NCR Transport Corporation to build the RRTS depot, but later it had to explore options in Madhuban-Bapudham because farmers in three villages had refused to sell their land at the compensation rate they were being offered.

The transport corporation has now revised its rates for the three Duhai villages and has also scaled down the land requirement from 67 to 51 hectares.

“The process of acquiring land for the Duhai depot has already been initiated.

Notices have been issued for acquiring 51 hectares.

The earlier plan was to acquire 67 hectares.

But now, we will buy 51 hectares directly from farmers,” a news report quoted an official as saying.

An official from the land acquisition department told the publication that the transport corporation had already submitted a proposal to buy plots with the revised rates.

“Yes, the rates have been revised and we will acquire land directly from farmers this time.
