Post office looted of Rs 6.5L after watchman killed

Meerut: In a shocking incident, a night watchman posted at the main post office in Bulandshahr’s Khurja town was smothered by the killer after they consumed liquor together on Wedneday night. The culprits used a gas cutter to break open the locker in the post office after breaking the main door lock. Police sources said the night watcheman had been hired to exclusively guard the post office.“According to prima facie evidence, it seems that the watchman knew the killer or killers who was/were very well aware of the amount of money kept in the post office. We have taken into the custody all the CCTV recordings for clues,” said the SSP.The body was immediately sent for post-mortem while the forensic team reached the spot to look for clues. Later, the killer broke into the post office and decamped with Rs 6.30 lakh kept in the locker there.According to police, during investigations it came to light that night watchman Devi Sharan, 58, had consumed liquor with the killer as two glasses, a liquor bottle and a packet of snacks were found near the body, which was discovered by the local people early on Thursday morning.SSP Muniraj G has suspended three policemen, including chowki incharge for dereliction in duty..
