Meerut: As many as 2,300 e-rickshaws have been registered in Meerut so far by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) department. These are also being done to keep a check on the illegal e-rickshaws, which are also plying on the roads.”“Meerut traffic police, along with the regional transport office, have conducted drives against illegal e-rickshaws and have already seized hundreds of them so far. However, apart from them, over 10,000 illegal e-rickshaws are also plying on Meerut roads, which are proving to be a traffic menace.Now, the RTO is conduction regular drives against them.Vijay Kumar, regional transport officer (administration), Meerut, said, “We have registered as many as 2,300 e-rickshaws in the district so far. The e-rickshaw committee had also hosted demonstrations in the city and said that it was the due to the long and delayed procedure at the RTO office that their vehicles’ registration was being delayed. Special counters for registration of e-rickshaws were also opened on priority basis after the instructions of district authorities..
