Thieves cut open ATM, flee with Rs 9L in Bhiwandi

BHIWANDI: Thieves cut open an ATM and fled with Rs 9 lakh here. The incident came to light on Saturday at 7am when a customer went to withdraw money. Police found that a team that supervises CCTVs of ATMs from their centralised office also did not notice the incident till the customer went inside to withdraw cash.Senior inspector S D Jadhav said they had registered a case. The customer then informed Narpoli police Police said the theft probably took place between 2.30am and 3am when a person used a gas-cutter to cut open the ATM and fled with Rs 9 lakh at Union Bank's ATM in Narpoli.The incident has raised questions about security of banks as in such cases, the ATM's alarm sets off..
