Maharashtra government mulls to open industrial units for low cost housing

Maharashtra government has planned to bring in a new policy for the utilisation of land of closed industrial units. The policy aims to utilise the closed industrial units to create low-cost housing and provide flip to the industrial sector which is currently experiencing a slump. MIDC is currently compiling details with regard to plots occupied by closed industrial units which can be reused for industrial and residential purposes,'' the officer concluded. The units are situated in the MIDC run 285 industrial estates spread over 85,000 hectares across Maharashtra. The rest 40 per cent land will be given to construct affordable houses on a preferential basis under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana(PMAY)..
