Mumbai: More than 8,000 neonatal deaths in past 4 years

Summary:

Less number of infants have died due to infant respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) — 14 neonatal infants and pneumonia — 12 neonatal infants death. Pneumonia caused 87 infants deaths and congenital anomaly caused 63 deaths. Further, from January 2018 till June 2018, around 264 neonatal deaths are registered in three of the major civic-run hospital besides other civic-run hospitals. While in Sion Hospital, promotion of breastfeeding, ancillary support with human milk bank and promotion of kangaroo mother care is done to reduce the number of neonatal deaths. LIVES NIPPEDData suggests around 7,849 neonatal infants (from birth to one month) have died from 2015 to 2017 in the city.
