Fire mishaps in Mumbai city killed 300 persons over six years

A total of 300 people have lost their lives and 1,045 were injured in fire mishaps that took place in Mumbai city and the suburbs in the last six years. Of the 2,942 buildings that were deficient in implementing fire safety norms, 2,924 have ensured compliances for fire safety. The MLAs asked the government a question about the fire at Crystal Towers in Mumbai's Parel area in which four people were killed and 22 injured. The civic body has issued notices to the 18 other buildings which have not done the needful, and has lodged cases against them. Inspections by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) between 2015 and September 2018 revealed that of the 5,804 buildings that were assessed for fire safety, 2,942 were found to be deficient in implementing these measures..
