GVK, Adani, Reliance keen on Ahmedabad airport upgradation plan

Fifteen companies have expressed their interest in redeveloping Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport under the Public-private partnership (PPP) model. The decision was taken following the successful implementation of the model in Delhi and Mumbai airports which led to revenue growth and increase in tourist flow. While final decision for the bidding process will be announced on February 28, reportedly big players including GVK and GMR, that operates Mumbai and Delhi airport have participated in the bid along with Adani and Reliance. After a few failed attempts to partially privatise Ahmedabad and Jaipur airports, the Union government in November had changed track and has opted for the PPP model for six airports, offering them longer concession period of 50 years to enable them greater returns.
