Maharashtra: Cameras on RTO vehicles to check violations

The state government has directed the flying squad of Regional Transport Offices (RTO) to install cameras on their vehicles along with a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) machine while taking action on overloaded vehicles. "Commissioner of Transportation department should ensure that for the purchase of portable weighing machines and cameras to be installed on the flying squad vehicles, the procurement has to be done and implemented in a systematic manner within six months," the official said. As per the said provisions, earlier, the vehicle owners could offload excess goods and pay penalty to the RTO. Portable weighing machines should be provided to the flying squad of the Motor Transport Department to take action on such overloaded vehicles," said a home department official..
