Every 4th person in Mumbai suffers from diabetes and hypertension

According to a report by a pilot medical health and wellness initiative run by BMC's public health department, every fourth person in the city between the age group of 40 to 50 years suffers from hypertension and diabetes. "More such initiatives will be taken up in the city after few months during the monsoon season," added Dr Revankar. The report analyzed by the public health department stated that 26 per cent of the citizens who were screened for NCD had hypertension, while around 25 per cent of the citizens were diagnosed with diabetes for the first time. Dr Santosh Revankar, joint executive health officer, BMC's public health department, said, "Around 590 people between the age group of 40 to 50 years across the city were screened during the initiative.
