Rs 54.75 cr sanctioned from Maharashtra CMRF to pay for migrant workers' travel, says Uddhav Thackeray

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said his government sanctioned Rs 54.75 crore to various districts to pay for the rail tickets of migrant workers who travelled to their respective states by special trains. Lakhs of migrant workers were stranded in different parts of the country after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide lockdown from March 25. While Mumbai city got Rs 12.96 crore, Rs 10 crore was given to Mumbai suburbs to pay for the travel of migrant workers. Pune district received Rs 8 crore while Thane and Raigad got Rs 4.8 crore and Rs 2.5 crore respectively. The chief minister said earlier that the state government would pay for travel expenses of migrant workers who wanted to leave as well as those from Maharashtra who are stuck elsewhere..
