Summary:

“There are more than 80 lakh people belonging to SC category, and yet, SCs are giving just 3% reservation. Mysuru: Members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation descended on Ramaswamy Circle on Monday to stage a protest, urging the state government to provide free bus passes to all students, irrespective of caste.Students from various city colleges participated in the protest, forming a human chain along the junction and raised slogans against the government. This is the reason why many SCs are yet to join the mainstream. In the ongoing assembly session, Kumaraswamy must hike the reservation to 7.5%,” the protesters said.President of the Nayaka forum Paduvarahalli Ramakrishna, Chamundi Betta Shridar, Vinod and Kumarbeedu Suresh were among those present at the demonstration.Meanwhile, activists of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti assembled in front of B Ambedkar’s statue at Town Hall to protest the state government’s decision to close more than 28,000 state-run schools. “The state government has to withdraw the budget, and come up with a permanent solution to revive the schools,” they said. The protesters opined that closing down such a large number of schools would deprive children of the economically weaker sections of the society without access to education, since most of them cannot afford to pay the hefty fees charged by private institutions..
