MYSURU: For the last three years, 8-year-old Nayeema Khan has been the only student at Government Lower Primary School in Krishnaraja Nagar taluk, 65km from Mysuru. The school has only one teacher and was also set up to educate Muslim children. Villagers said the school, one of the first in Urdu medium, was set up to cater to the local Muslim populace.It’s a similar situation at another Urdu-medium school in nearby Hanasoge. Earlier, it had many students but the numbers dwindled as families relocated to urban pockets and some started studying at the Kannada-medium school next door.The village has around 40 Muslim families and the population is around 450 with Dalits in the majority, he said..
