Vajramushti Kalaga to be held on October 19

Mysuru: Vajramushti Kalaga, the centuries-old traditional sport where two pairs of wrestlers battle with ivory-crafted knuckleduster-like weapons, will be held at the Karilallu Thotti in the Mysuru Palace premises on October 19 (Vijayadashami day). Of the four pailwans (wrestlers) participating, two will make their debut.The Vajramushti Kalaga a sport that is held only during the Dasara in Mysuru and that too only within the confines of Mysuru palace. Only those from the Jatti community, who were tasked with escorting the prince, take part.Traditionally, the fighters are from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Chamarajanagar and Channapatana where the Jatti community, who originally hailed from Delmal in Gujarat but migrated to Mysuru, is found in large numbers. “They are voluntarily taking up the sport and are very eager to take part in the competition.
