Kin of girl missing after floods to get compensation

Madikeri: Nearly six months after a Class X student from Madenadu village disappeared in the flash floods that hit Kodagu, the state government has decided to give compensation to her relatives. According to the MLAs, compensation to the damaged crops is limited to two hectares. However, many lands got damaged in the floods and the landslide. The government is in the process of rebuilding 840 houses, the chief minister said. The girl’s family had failed to get any compensation as her body was never found.Setting aside norms, chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday instructed officials to give compensation to the girl’s family at the first meeting of Kodagu Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Development Authority held in Bengaluru.A total of 500 houses collapsed and 662 others got damaged in the floods..
