MYSURU: After staging a protest to prevent the desilting of the Kukkarahalli lake , activists asked the district administration to clear encroachments on the Purnaiah canal, its main feeder line . The lake houses hundreds of birds.After the protests, the DC inspected the site and ordered to stop the construction work and desilting of the lake. He then approached the Karnataka Lake development Authority and asked it to depute experts to study the action plan. They said: "As we were working on the plan, to our shock and dismay, we learnt how Purnaiah canal is being encroached upon at Sharada Devi Nagar railway layout. Not only have four pucca houses been built on the canal itself, but plans are afoot to build some more.".
