NAGPUR: Nagpur Municipal Corporation is offering eco-friendly options for cremation of bodies at four crematoriums in the city.Alternative to woods, these briquettes are basically hard bricks with the right mixture of agri-waste such as cotton plant stalks, arhar plant stalks, rice husk etc.After the concept of a ‘green cremation’ struck Vijay Limaye, he started persuading government bodies as well as general public to use this green option. "Taking into account the sentiments and traditions associated with rituals such as funeral pyre, I began working on an alternative to wood," Limaye said.After Nagpur, Sangali city corporation is also starting this eco-cremation in the city crematorium.Limaye's venture has won praise from various quarters of the society.Farmers are also making an earning through this initiative, as huge quantity of agri-waste has been used to make this bricks.Along with LPG crematoria, the corporation also introduced these agro-waste briquettes for the cremation.For cremation of one human body, it requires wood quantity equivalent to two full grown 15-year-old trees..
