Rise in jaundice and gastro cases

Summary:

Nagpur: The number of people afflicted with waterborne diseases like gastro and viral hepatitis (jaundice) continue to rise in the city. The cases of gastro have increased to 538 and hepatitis to 82 in the current fiscal as per data from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC).The NMC’s health department has registered 24 cases of gastro, seven cases of viral hepatitis and one case of dysentery between July 8 and 14, all post record rainfall. The cases of gastro increased to 57, viral hepatitis to 15 and dysentery to 2 between July 1 and 14.The cases of cholera and diarrhoea are steady at 5 and 1, respectively, in this month. As per NMC records, the death was the first in the last decade.The cases of waterborne diseases are higher than that recorded with the NMC. Medical officer (epidemic) Dr Sunil Ghurde told TOI a warning has been issued to all hospitals to send details of patients admitted for waterborne diseases..
