Gadchiroli cops clueless about Maoist arms dealer

NAGPUR: Ajeet Roy alias Ajeet Ray, who was arrested by Delhi polices’ special cell in a joint operation with Gadchiroli cops on Saturday, had been operating from the tribal district of eastern Vidarbha dodging security intelligence network. Police said he was not appearing before the court.Earlier, Roy was learnt to be connected with Gadchiroli’s Maoist leaders like Shankar Anna and also Santosh Anna. It’s also not clear why they did not notice Ray’s activities.An award of Rs two lakhs was also announced on Roy’s head. Gadchiroli police had no clue about the arms supplier of the Maoist and their fund raiser until Roy was traced by Delhi police, leaving their Maharashtra counterparts red-faced.Roy, who has been slapped with preventive actions by Mulchera police in 1992 twice, had been actively supporting the Maoist in Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh for the last 25 years. He had been also nabbed by Odisha police on two occasions in 2005 for dealing in fake currencies and again in 2008 when found with three other Maoists..
