World of crystals gives students fascinating time

To celebrate the event, this exhibition has been organized to stimulate and ignite interest in the beautiful world of crystals and crystallography. Nagpur: Students undertook a fascinating and educative journey of dazzling crystals, their physico-chemical properties, research details of crystallography and application at an exhibition organized at Raman Science Centre and Planetarium (RSC), near Gandhisagar lake, on Wednesday.Inaugurating the exhibition titled ‘The wonderful world of crystals’, Vivek Nanoti, principal of Priyadarshini Institute of Engineering and Technology, said an individual should have curiosity to learn more. (Reporting by Isha Thakare) It will be open to students and people between 9.30am and 6pm daily.Project coordinator and head of RSC N Ramdas Iyer and curator Manoj Kumar Panda have been making concerted efforts to create awareness about crystallography.Unesco had declared 2014 as International Year of Crystallography. He spoke at length about the formation and composition of crystals and inspired young minds to work hard, dream and aim high.Students of JN Tata Parsi Girls High School studying in Std XI and XII with science background were invited to the event on the first day.The exhibition tells the history of crystal studies and applications, particularly in biology, through working models, interactive visuals, multimedia and video films to generate curiosity among young students.The exhibition that took shape at Central Research and Training Laboratory, Kolkata, will travel to around 25 science centres in India to spread knowledge about crystals.It has been for the first time in Nagpur that Raman Science Centre and Planetarium has hosted a travelling exhibition which will be open till January 31, 2019..
