Spotted deer knocked dead on Chanda-Mul road

Chandrapur: A spotted deer was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Chandrapur-Mul stretch of the national highway on Monday night. A large part of the 40-km-long Chandrapur-Mul stretch of the highway passes through buffer and eco-sensitive zone of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR). They have demanded underpasses and speed breakers on the road.Dozens of wild animals were killed or maimed on Chandrapur-Mul stretch last year. As the injured deer died by the roadside, local dogs and other scavengers devoured some portion of the carcass. The accident has once again brought the issue of mitigation measures on densely forested highway stretch to the fore.Sources claimed that the male deer might have been crossing the road when some speeding heavy vehicle ran over it..
