CP BK Upadhyay honoured by NCRB for contribution in prison reformation

NAGPUR: City police chief BK Upadhyay , an IPS officer of 1989 batch, has been conferred the Commendation Disc by the director general of police heading the New Delhi-based National Crime Bureau Records (NCRB) this week. The senior IPS officer got the award for his contribution in reformation and improvisation of prison management.The citation, which was sent to Upadhyay along with the medal, honoured his outstanding service at the helm of the state prison department as Addl DG before being shifted to city as CP in 2018. “It is likely that the NCRB may propose prison departments across the nation to adopt some of the practices suggested in the project,” he said.Upadhyay had started several initiatives while in the prison department including organizing ‘Rakshabandhan’ for inmates, ‘Galabhet’ meant for family members of prisoners to meet them within the prison premises, yoga and such reformative practices. The citation signed by senior IPS officer AP Maheshwari, who is at present posted as DG NCRB, stated that Upadhyay was awarded the commendation disc and citation in recognition of his ‘praise worthy contribution in micro-mission 08’ and preparing a project title ‘Review and Implementation of rules and process for the internal management of prisons and prisoners’.Upadhyay, who had served in the prison department for four years as DIG first and then Addl DG, said the project submitted by him had several recommendations which was appreciated by NCRB..
