Maharashtra Highway Police (MHP) had launched the 'Mrityunjay Doots' scheme on March 1 across the State with an aim to provide medical aid to accident victims within an hour of the accident (golden hour). Local villagers employees of dhabas and petrol pumps doctors around National and State highways across the State have been trained as 'Mrityunjay Doots' by the Highway Police. According to statistics provided by MHP the 'Mrityunjay Doots' have provided help in 153 road accidents and admitted 286 seriously injured accident victims to hospitals. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Traffic and Highway Police Dr Bhushankumar Upadhyay informed 'The Hitavada' that a total of 5012 volunteers have been appointed as 'Mrityunjay Doots' across the State..
