HC dismisses PIL challenging appointment of govt lawyers

Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court , on Thursday, dismissed a PIL alleging discrepancies in appointment of government lawyers to Chandrapur district and sessions court . The recommendations of the chief judicial magistrate were not considered during these appointments, and are politically influenced, the petitioner had claimed. However, the appointments were not complying with guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and high court. The litigation was filed by social activist Prabhakar Gedam.After hearing arguments from both parties, the court observed that opinion or recommendation of the chief judicial magistrate is not necessary while appointing government lawyers.The petitioner said that the state government's additional public prosecutors, additional and assistant government pleaders were appointed vide notices on March 23, May 3 and 10, 2016..
