460 booked for talking on cellphone

During the period from January 1 to March 31, police have booked 462 motorists for speaking on mobile phone while driving. Many two-wheeler riders hold mobile phone between their shoulder and one side of the face, which leads to accidents. Of late, since many two-wheeler riders have started using helmets, it was found that people stick their mobile inside the helmet. We have also sent around 150 proposals to the regional transport office to suspend the driving licences of such motorists.”Last year, over 2,200 motorists were booked for speaking on mobile phone while driving.Police said speaking on mobile phone distracted motorists. Apart from the smaller lanes of the city, motorists are also seen driving and speaking on phone on busy roads, including the highways.ACP Ajay Devre of the city traffic branch said, “We have been booking people if they are found speaking on phone while driving..
