Nashik | Saturday | 16th June, 2018

Summary:

While in some areas the power was restored within four hours, the above areas witness failure of power for longer durations.“As per the Standards of Performance (SOP) set by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) the Mahasrashtra State Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has to ensure the power connections are live within four hours of the period of registration of complaint or cause of action. NASHIK: Taking a strong exception to power failure during the first showers of the season of June 1 and 2, the Nashik Zilla Grahak Panchayat has presented a memorandum to the power distribution company seeking compensation for the people who faced power cuts for more than four hours of duration. The residents of the Gangpur Road, College Road, Panchavati and such others faced power cuts from 1.00 am when the winds started blowing and the heavy rains that lashed the city and parts of the district. All the consumers of the areas where the power was the not available for more than 4 hours of time should be given the compensation for unavailability of power in the areas,” the Gahak Panchayat Secretary, Vilas Deole said. The Panchayat pointed out that the MSEDCL was switching off power supplies to most of the areas of the city on Saturdays claiming that it was carrying out the pre-monsoon maintenance in the areas to ensure rains do not disrupt the power supply. However, the rains ensured power was disrupted for good long seven hours and at the same time it affected the daily chores of the individuals and hence the MSEDCL should be asked to compensate the consumers for the loss at the rate of Rs 50 per hour exceeding four hours, the Grahak Panchayat has demanded. The MSEDCL officers said they had received the demand from the Grahak Panchayat and would decide upon the same at the earliest..
