7 dead, 19 hurt after two trucks collide

NASHIK: At least seven people were killed and 19 others injured when two trucks collided near Shirvade Phata , 40 km from here, on the Mumbai-Agra highway around 11.15 am on Sunday. When their truck was passing Shirvade Phata near Daulat hotel, the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a divider and collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction on the adjacent road. Till late in the evening, the Pimpalgaon police , under whose jurisdiction the accident occurred, were busy streamlining traffic on the highway.The impact of the collision was such that one person, Nivrutti Rambhau Londe (70) from Savtanagar, and two women, Sushila Gavali (66) and Shobha Suryawanshi (60) from Rahul Nagar, Takli, died on the spot. Ashabai Kandekar (45), Sundarabai Kandekar (80) and six-month-old Samruddhi Dange, residents of Rahul Nagar, Takli; and Sudam Patankar (66) from DGP Nagar, succumbed to injuries while being treated at a private hospital in Pimpalgaon.The police said that close to 40 people from Nashik were travelling to Kedrai near Chandwad in a truck to attend a religious programme of a relative..
