19 PUC centres issued certs sans vehicle checking

Flying squads were conducting surprise checks of vehicles on the road.During April 2018 to January 2019 the RTO found 1,404 vehicles without PUC certificates. Nashik: The regional transport office has intensified its vigil on pollution under control (PUC) centres in and around the city to ensure that they do not give PUC certificates without checking the vehicle.The RTO has been undertaking such drives often to check if the authorised PUC centres are running on the expected lines.Senior RTO officials said they conducted surprise checks at 45 PUC centres From January 2018 to January 2019 and found irregularities at 19 centres. The concerned motorists were slapped with a fine of over Rs 7 lakh. The officials found that the PUC centres were issuing certificates without checking the vehicles.Consequently, the RTO suspended operations of a few PUCs until further orders, while the licences of four others were cancelled permanently given the huge number of PUC certificates they had issued without checking the vehicles.The officials said recently they came across one more centre which was into issuing the PUC certificate without checking the vehicle and they were in the process of suspending it. They added that they would continue the surprise checks.In an appeal to motorists, the RTO officials said they were conducting drives to check if motorists are getting their vehicles checked to pass the PUC test and have a certificate of the same..
