Nashik: The Railways has decided to set up a sewage treatment plant (STP) at Nashik Road station after it was included in the list of ‘eco-smart’ stations. The sources from divisional office of the Railways at Bhusawal said, “Since Nashik Road station (A1 Class) has been selected in the list of eco-smart stations, huge infrastructure development has been planned. The discharge should be clean and hence an STP is being planned,” a senior officer said. The sewage lines from the Railway station will be directed towards the STP instead of the drainage system of the NMC. As per the directives of National Green Tribunal, the station has to manage its own waste and hence an STP is now being planned.”The Railways has zeroed-in on the space for construction of the STP, which will be next to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) office on platform number 1.All the sewage generated from Nashik Road Railway station is discharged into the nallah that passes just besides the Railway Station. This underground system is connected to the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s STP.“As per the NGT guidelines, the Railway station has to ensure zero discharge of waste, which means all the waste generated from the station is expected to be treated on the premises. With the STP, we will be able to re-cycle and re-use the water for cleaning purposes..
