Nashik district gets 21 tankers

NASHIK: Nashik district might have received better rains till date, but the pockets that have not received rains are being forced to face scarcity of drinking water even in the month of July.Considering the situation there the district administration has started 21 tankers to various villages spread across five drought prone talukas of Nashik district that fall in the eastern parts of the district neighbouring Ahmednagar, Aurangabad and Dhule districts all of which are heavily dependent on rainfall in Nashik for their water supply around the year.Since the scarcity plan for the year 2016-17 came to an end on June 30, 2017, and with good rains the state government gave no extension to the same, the district administration also closed down all the tankers in the district. "However, we received the demands for tankers from the locals after which the stand procedure of getting the survey of ground water levels in those areas by groundwater surveillance and development agency department to assess the situation and then started the tankers," Resident Deputy Collector Ramdas Khedkar said.There are 21 tankers now serving about 37 villages across five talukas of the district.Baglan is the worst affected as eleven tankers have been pressed into the service to serve purpose for more than 15 villages and habitats.This is followed by Yeola taluka having four tankers, Sinnar three and Malegaon one tanker to supply drinking water to the villagers.The tankers will continue to be in the service for the people till the situation improves..
