Onion trader discloses Rs 3 crore unaccounted assets

NASHIK: One of the seven big onion traders in the district, who were recently searched by the Income Tax (I-T) department, has made a self-disclosure of unaccounted assets worth Rs 3 crore. ""We have found evidence about involvement of some onion traders in hawala transaction with Dubai connections. Retail prices had also gone up from Rs 10-15 per kg to nearly Rs 40-50 in various cities.The centre had been keeping a close watch on onion trade in the district, including daily arrivals, onion prices etc. It had also unearthed evidence of the traders offering cash loans with interest rates up to 3% per month.The I-T sources told TOI, "One trader has made self-disclosure of his unaccounted assets worth Rs 3 crore. However, the I-T department has decided to investigating the documents seized from him.The I-T department is in the process of investigating the documents it seized from all the seven traders, including the documents regarding hawala deals..
