NOIDA: Four leaders of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) were arrested by Noida police after a protest by around 50 members of the outfit turned violent when Sector 20 police resorted to lathi-charge upon them.The IYC members who were protesting against the Narendra Modi-led government over the “financial scams” and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s controversial comments comparing the RSS brigade with the Indian Army, were restrained from burning the effigies of the Prime Minister and Bhagwat.Around 12:30pm, they led a march from the Sector 18 metro station to the Atta Peer chowk raising slogans against Modi and Bhagwat during which they had planned to burn the effigies of the duo.The protest was held to decry the exit of Nirav Modi- the accused in the Rs 280 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam - from the country and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comment saying that while the Army would take six months to prepare for a fight, RSS cadres would just take three days.However, a team of police which had been already deployed to keep an eye on the march tried to restrain them when the IYC members tried to set the effigies of the PM and Bhagwat afire The police team resorted to lathicharge on the IYC members and dragged them inside the police van after they tried to burn the effigies.Policeman were videographed resorting to lathi-charge on the leaders who were shouting slogans against the PM and the RSS while some cops were seen snatching the effigies from the youth leaders.Congress leaders alleged that three office bearers of the Gautam Budh Nagar Indian Youth Congress (IYC) had got injured during the lathi-charge.District IYC president Deepak Bhati Chotiwala alleged that the claim of the BJP which had come to power fighting on the plank of corruption has now become ash.“Even after four years in power, the Modi brigade is behaving as if the Congress in in power and hence, holding the erstwhile Congress government responsible for every scam and wrong policy,” he alleged.Purushottam Nagar, general secretary, UP IYC said that the since the BJP came to power, the RSS started throttling democracy and now they have “raised questions on the Army too.” Sector 20 SHO Anil Shahi said that State IYC president Omvir Yadav, district IYC president Chotiwala, UP general secretary Purushottam Nagar and member Sanjeev Nagar were arrested during the protest and have been booked under IPC 341 (wrongful restraint) and the UP Provincial Act 1932..
