NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: As part of a nation-wide protest against caste-based reservations and seeking to implement the Supreme Court order on the SC/ST Act , rallies took place across Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad on Thursday.Local residents’ body, industries and social organisations like Brahman Samaj Seva Samiti, Agarwal Mitra Mandal, Karni Sena etc participated in the protest. The said Act needs to be modified on two counts. They submitted a memorandum to city magistrate Shailesh Mishra after taking out a march from Noida stadium to the DM’s office.“There are many people from upper castes who live in poverty and are in need of benefits that come from reservation. Firstly, we demand that reservation/benefits, if any, should be based on the economic condition of a person, and secondly, we want the implementation of SC ruling of March 20, 2018 which calls for proper investigation by an SHO before an FIR is lodged under SC/ST Act and that there should be no arrest till the investigation is underway,” said Vipin Malhan, president NEA.The protests have come at a time when a Noida-based retired colonel and three of his acquaintances were arrested on August 14 and 15 subsequently (last month) and sent to jail under SC/ST Act on the basis of a complaint filed by the wife of ADM of Muzzafarnagar..
