NOIDA: The Biodiversity Park in Sector 91 — touted to be the largest park in the city — will be thrown open to public by July this year, the Noida Authority said on Tuesday. The park, being developed on an area of 75 acres off the Noida-Greater Noida expressway, will have an additional 35 acres of green belt. It is going to be a one-stop destination for a variety of plants, trees and water catchment area in the NCR.“The project cost is Rs 40 crore and the park will be ready by July 31,” Rajeev Tyagi, general manager (projects), Noida Authority, told TOI.According to Tyagi, over 8,000 trees, one lakh shrubs and about 4.5 lakh ground covers are proposed to be planted at the park, which is expected to increase huge amount of evapo-transpiration (the process by which water is transferred from the land to atmosphere) in the area.“We plan to address the water scarcity issue in the area with the proposed 85% forested green area, along with 100% groundwater recharge from the total 110 acres of the park land,” he said, adding the park is also envisaged to play an important role in imparting nature education, particularly to school and college students.Additionally, a substantial chunk of 10-acre area of the park will be designed as a wetland which will act like a natural sponge and removes pollutants.“This will help create a rich repository of native adaptive and acclimatised flora amidst a wetland ecosystem of small animals, insects, birds and butterflies, leading to huge amount of oxygen generation,” said Tyagi..
