Mohali: Chris Gayle on Saturday became the first cricketer in Indian Premier League history to smash 300 sixes in the tournament.

He was dismissed for a 24-ball 40 and now has 302 sixes in the IPL from 115 matches.

Gayle is already the leading six-hitter in the IPL and needed just two more to reach 300 sixes before KXIP`s first home game against Mumbai Indians at the IS Bindra stadium in Mohali.

No one is anywhere near Chris Gayle in the six-hitting business in the IPL.

Ab de Villiers is second in the list with 192 sixes while Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni is third with 187 sixes.

Suresh Raina of CSK is fourth with 186 sixes and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is fifth with 185 sixes.

Before the start of this game, Gayle had scored 4093 runs from 114 matches at an average of 41.34 with six hundreds and 25 half-centuries.
