SC allows admissions in 3 state medical colleges

The state government had moved the SC on June 4 against the Centre’s decision.Union ministry of health and family welfare, on the recommendations of Medical Council of India (MCI), had banned admissions in the Bettiah and Pawapuri medical colleges and reduced the number of seats in ANMMCH by half. The decision was taken after the MCI found faculty shortage and other shortcomings in these colleges.“The state government will try to overcome the deficiencies reported by the MCI within three months,” state health minister Mangal Pandey said. Patna: The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the three medical colleges in the state to take admissions in the MBBS course for 2018-19 academic session.The apex court overruled the Union ministry of health and family welfare’s decision to debar admission on 100 seats each in Government Medical College, Bettiah and Vardhaman Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri, and reduce the seats in Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya, from 100 to 50.Principal secretary (health) Sanjay Kumar said the vacation bench of Justices Abdul Nazeer and Indu Malhotra passed the order..
