2L saplings to be planted in Patna SuMo

PATNA: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has said around two lakh saplings will be planted across Patna district under the monthlong ‘Van Mahotsav’ celebrations that began on July 1.Presiding over a meeting with representatives of 40-odd organizations in Patna on Monday, Modi said of the two lakh saplings, 27,000 will be planted in gabions and around 2,000 big plants along the eight-km Digha-AIIMS road.“At least ten teams of state forest department will be engaged for the plantation work across various targeted areas of Bihar,” he said.Giving details of targets for Van Mahotsav, SuMo said 49 lakh and 58 lakh saplings will be planted during the monsoon this year by the forest department and farmers respectively. Under the ‘Har parisar, hara parisar’ (every campus, green campus) initiative, around 80,000 saplings will be planted on 258 campuses of different organizations.“Under the Namami Gange programme, around 3.63 lakh trees will be planted in 216 organizations, including schools,” he said.He also said around 1.12 lakh trees would be planted on the 120-km stretch of national highway.The deputy CM underlined the need to spread awareness among people and make plantation a mass movement because sustaining greenery in the surrounding was as important as the plantation of saplings.The meeting was addressed by forest department’s senior official Tripurari Sharan, Mayor Sita Sahu, Chanakya National Law University VC Justice (retd) Mridula Mishra, among others..
