Plan to waive off fee at blood banks

In either case, the recipient has to pay Rs 500 as processing fees.“While donated blood comes free of cost to blood banks, there was cost involved in collecting, testing, preparing components and storing blood as per the guidelines formulated by the National Blood Transfusion Council,” Dr Jha said.He said the government as of now provides blood free of cost to patients suffering from blood disorders and in case of loss of blood in accidents if the patient is admitted to a government hospital. PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar has directed the state health department to consider waving off the processing fees for procuring blood from blood banks.Principal secretary (health) Sanjay Kumar on Monday said the department was working on this proposal and a decision would be taken in this regard soon..
