Summary:

PATNA: People may get some respite from the prevailing sultry weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted fairly widespread rainfall in the state from Sunday till July 25. At least 34 of 38 districts in the state are facing deficient rainfall. “The intensity of showers will be light to moderate in Bihar and the duration of each spell of the rainfall is likely to vary in the range of 15 to 30 minutes,” an official at Patna Meteorological Centre said.Meanwhile, absence of showers has led to surge in mercury in the state. Patna was the hottest place in the country on Friday as the maximum temperature here was recorded at 41.6 degrees C.

The Met office has predicted that the maximum temperature in the state capital would hover in the range of 37-38 degrees C till July 27.The state has received just 214mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 21 against the expected figure of 408.3mm, taking the rainfall deficiency to 48%. The intensity of rainfall, however, is expected to be light.Patna Meteorological Centre also predicted that the city may witness partly cloudy sky with rain or thunderstorm on Sunday due to a weather depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and position of monsoon trough line. The all-India weather bulletin issued by IMD on Saturday stated that the depression was very likely to move northwestwards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Chandbali and Digha, close to Balasore around Saturday evening.Officials at Patna Meteorological Centre said light showers were witnessed at Gaya, Chhapra and Aurangabad on Saturday..
