One of the most ancient festivals of Hindus belonging to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, Chhath Puja will be celebrated on November 19-20 this year.

However, this year a lot of restrictions have been imposed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Using waterbodies has been banned in most of the states including Bihar.

This year, the main celebration is on November 20 when the devotees will offer argha to Sun God.

Chhath Puja is a four-day long Hindu festival which is mainly observed by the people of Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and the Madhesh region of Nepal.

Chhath Puja Significance

On Chhath Puja, devotees worship Surya Dev (Lord Sun), the god of energy and of the life-force, and Shashthi Devi (Chhathi Maiya) to promote well-being, prosperity and progress.

Chhath Puja is also known as Surya Shashti, Chhath, Chhathi, Chhath Parv, Dala Puja and Dala Chhath.

It is believed that the main sources of Sun`s powers are his wife Usha and Pratyusha.
