There has been a crackdown on the illegal sand mining along the Sankarabharani river at Pillaiyarkuppam village in Puducherry. The administration hopes that with the government allowing import of sand, the shortage of sand should end soon and the development and construction work in the Union Territory of Puducherry would receive a push. Also, the procedures/conditions stipulated in the rules at the time of import of sand had been discussed elaborately and explained to all line departments.
