Rajnarayanan had been battling an age-related illness for some time, he was on bed rest for the past few months and died at the age of 98, on Monday night at his home.

Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan paid tributes to the writer on Tuesday.

Rajnarayanan was born in 1923 in Idaiseval village near Kovilpatti in the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu.

Rajnarayanan was a professor in the Department of Public Literature at Pondicherry University in the 1980s.

He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1991 for his novel `Gopalapuratu Makkal`.
